Get Involved
Join Our Rescue Volunteers
Join our volunteer team and help improve the lives of cats and kittens across Broward County. Whether you want to help occasionally or volunteer regularly, your time, compassion, and skills can make a real difference for animals waiting for their forever homes.
At Happy Whiskers Animal Coalition, we make it easy to get involved. Volunteers support our rescue through events, transport, foster coordination, and outreach throughout Broward County and South Florida.
We proudly offer community service hours for volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for tracking their own hours and allowing at least one week for paperwork processing when verification is needed.
Volunteering with Happy Whiskers
There are many ways to volunteer with our Broward County cat rescue. Whether you prefer working directly with cats, helping behind the scenes, or assisting with events, our volunteers play a critical role in saving lives across South Florida.
• Foster Parent – Provide a safe and loving temporary home for cats or kittens while they wait for adoption. Foster homes allow our rescue to save more animals in Broward County.
• TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Volunteer – Help humanely trap community cats so they can be spayed or neutered. We provide the equipment and training needed to safely reduce stray cat overpopulation.
• Adoption Event Volunteer – Assist during local adoption events by helping set up, speaking with potential adopters, and supporting outreach efforts.
• Transport Volunteer – Help drive rescued cats to veterinary appointments, foster homes, or adoption events throughout Broward County.
Fostering with Happy Whiskers
Every foster home allows us to save another life. Fostering is one of the most impactful ways you can help cats in need.
What is fostering?
A foster is a volunteer who opens their home to a rescued cat or kitten while we work to find them a permanent family. Foster volunteers provide a safe temporary home, daily care, and love while our rescue handles the rest.
Happy Whiskers covers food, litter, medical care, and other supplies — you provide the safe space and compassion that help cats thrive while waiting for adoption.
Why foster?
• It’s flexible — you choose the type of foster and the time commitment that works for you.
• It’s rewarding — watching a foster cat grow healthier, more confident, and eventually find a forever home is incredibly fulfilling.
• It saves lives — every foster home creates space for us to rescue another cat in need.
• It’s empowering — you become your foster cat’s biggest advocate and help them prepare for adoption.

Volunteer TNR Trapper
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is one of the most effective ways to reduce stray cat populations and improve the health of community cat colonies. Our volunteer trappers play a critical role in rescuing cats and helping stabilize colonies throughout Broward County.
Through TNR, unadoptable adult cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and safely returned to their outdoor homes. Sterilized colonies fight less, are healthier, and no longer reproduce.
All cats receive veterinary care before being returned, and we never relocate cats away from their established territory.
How the TNR Program Works
Volunteer trappers are assigned colony locations near their homes based on requests submitted through our website. Our goal is to fully stabilize each colony, which means ensuring every cat is sterilized before we consider the work complete.
Our rescue continues to support managed colonies through:
• follow-up trapping when needed
• food pantry assistance for colony caretakers
• medical support for injured cats
• guidance for local community cat caretakers

Transport Coordinator
Help our rescue save more lives by coordinating monthly cat transports from South Florida to partner rescues in northern states, where cats are adopted quickly. This volunteer role plays a critical part in helping more cats find permanent homes.
The position is about 90% remote and typically requires 2–5 hours per month. Transport coordinators review adoption paperwork and temperament notes, help arrange transportation (bus, van, or flight), and remain available by phone on transport day if needed.
This role also helps strengthen relationships with our partner rescues and adoption organizations that welcome cats from Happy Whiskers Animal Coalition.
Training is provided, and community service hours are available. This is a great opportunity for animal lovers who want to make a meaningful impact but may not be able to interact directly with animals.
For more information about this or any of our volunteer roles, email info@happy-whiskers.org.
Requirements:
- Clean driving record, driver’s license, and car insurance (in case of short drives)
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Outgoing and willing to connect with partner rescues
We are always looking for Volunteers at Whiskers.
